About Us
The Veerni Sansthan is a Civil Society organization registered as Non Profit and Non Government organization under Societies Registration Act 1958. The Veerni Sansthan was registered in March 2nd, 2015. The organization is also registered under section 12AA, 80G of Indian Income Tax and awarded with FCRA Certificate from the Home Ministry of India.
Veerni Project was established in 1993 following a visit to rural Rajasthan by its founders Ms. Jacqueline de Chollet who was deeply moved to observe the appalling status of women. Jacqueline then began to improve women’s health in 36 villages in the Thar Desert. After many years of working in public health in the poorest and most underserved villages of the Thar Desert, Veerni also established literacy centres in 7 of the villages. From 1993 to 2005 Veerni worked closely with local teams in rural villages. After analyzing the results it was decided better educational and health outcomes would result from establishing a central institute and provide school education in Jodhpur city. This approach was aimed at optimizing school attendance by the maximum of girls.
In 2005, Veerni opened a facility for village girls so that they could continue their education into secondary school in a safe and supportive environment, known today as the Veerni Institute. By placing girls in a sheltered context of focused study, Veerni is preparing them for a life where they can begin to exercise their basic human rights and choose a path as productive embers of society, beyond child marriage, poverty, and poor health. Veerni brings girls from different castes together, where they live for seven years, developing lifelong friendships and an appreciation for each other despite the sharp divisions amongst people of different castes.
The Veerni project was running under the H. H. Maharaja Hanuwant Singh Charitable Trust till 2014 and then got separated from the H.H. Maharaja Hanuwant Singh Charitable Trust, after getting separated from the H.H. Trust, The Veerni Sansthan is registered on March 2nd, 2015.
